Hello! That's me 🠓 Jay!

I’m a Mama to two little babes and a former foster Mom to many. A lover of all things Montessori, an avid thrift shopper, aspiring minimalist, and a self proclaimed capsule wardrobe expert. I live for outdoor music and peony season.

The Little Gosling was hatched in 2019. After being frustrated with green washing occurring sustainable textiles and witnessing the devastation of fast fashion, I wanted to bring forth my passion for sewing quality, timeless clothing using ethically produced textiles that are safe for humans and the environment.

Born out of my basement, every single item was delightfully sewn by me from start to finish.

In 2023 the work load became too much so I hired an incredibly talented team of local seamstresses to take over 50% of production, I still cut and finish the garments they sew. This team is payed living wages, an important ethical value that so many brands fail to meet.

I grew up sewing on my Grandmothers lap using her speedy industrial machine, she worked her life in a jean factory, with less than desirable conditions,  ultimately leading to her developing a severe lung condition, Emphysema, which became the cause of her short life. Her journey is reason to why I take sustainable sewing practices so personally.

This isn't a place for fast fashion. It’s my desire to operate business, differently.  Clothing is available in small batches at several Idaho retailers, visit the store locator here. In the spring and summer you'll find me popping up in person at the Idaho Falls Farmers market and when stock levels permit, i open up the website for online orders.

Sustainability

I'm mindful about sourcing the most sustainable and ethically produced products, materials and packaging. Transparency is incredibly important in supply chain, certifications and methods. I've learnt that knowing your fabric supplier, is like trusting your local farmer and through that I've established some important relationships with the fabric stores i buy from.

Product Safety

Our shop meets and exceeds Children's Product Safety Compliance (CPSC) - that means we're a registered small batch manufacture who follows and implements standards to ensure your children stay safe. This looks like, lead testing any snaps, buttons, zippers and fixtures. Using fabrics exempt from flammability testing OR testing fabrics for flammability. Meeting tight fitting requirement's, labelling instructions and length restrictions.

Clothes are cut and sewed in small/limited batches, not only does this ensure quality product, it enables myself and team to meet the needs of our families, avoid burn out, and continues our passion in this line of work.

Community

I'm a big believer in supporting community over competition, and love to support small start up brands and designers. Additionally, if you have a certain need that I cannot meet I LOVE referring you to other talented sewists who would be delighted to serve you.
